I'm now in the process of switching servers for the first time since I launched Waterfall Software. Waterfall's old host, Tera-Byte, was a decent host, but simply could not match services that other hosts offered for similar prices. I have now switched to MediaTemple and couldn't be happier. They offer tons more than Tera-Byte and their web interface is a lot friendlier and easier to use. In addition, their brand new Grid-Server results in less downtime and greater hosting potential.

Switching to MediaTemple also means that my other domains (*cough* dustinmacdonald.net), can now be properly hosted without redirects! So please, update your bookmarks to dustinmacdonald.net. If you haven't already updated your feed, the new feed is feeds.feedburner.com/DustinMacdonald. Waterfall Software will take a bit longer to switch but it will happen eventually.

Very rarely do I see shareware applications that spark my interest. Applications that are well done graphically, have a good user interface, and are useful everyday. Today I found an application that meets all of the above criteria. Meet Overflow 2.0 by Stunt Software.


Overflow is an application & document launcher for Mac OS X. Using Overflow, you can access these items extremely quickly without having to fish through the Finder. It's very similar to the "Launcher" app back from Mac OS 9, only with more style.

The most important thing about these kinds of apps is accessibility. And Overflow does not skimp on that one bit. You can access Overflow using only the keyboard (hotkeys and keyboard commands), only the mouse, or a combination of both if you want to. Simply clicking an icon will open it.

Another important part is customizability. In Overflow, you can sort apps and documents into different groups, letting you keep related items close together. Have a large monitor and don't want your icons to be tiny? Icons are resizable. Want more rows or columns? No problem, just resize the window while in "Edit" mode. You can even change the background color of the window if you'd like.

What's Cool: Looks great - reflections and glows on the icons help a lot. Extremely customizable. Not bloated.
What's Lame: Cmd-A keyboard shortcut adds a new item instead of selecting all text. Mediocre icon - not really something I'd want to keep in my dock.

Overall, I could see Apple doing something like this in the near future. Although we have the dock, it becomes cluttered really easily when you have more than 20 apps/documents in it. Overflow helps keeps those less important apps less than a few clicks away.
