Intense Heat
Nuclear SunOver the last week it's been almost unbearably hot and humid - wearing anything more than shorts would cause myself to melt. Hopefully it'll rain or something soon (come on, this is Vancouver, it's going to rain sooner or later!).

Which would I rather be during the rest of my life - too hot or too cold? I'd choose too cold, because you can always warm up in a number of ways (put a jacket on, light a fire, etc). But becoming cold is very hard compared to becoming warm. Plus you can get sunburns if you're out in the sun too long. And maybe it's just the Canadian in me poking out. I'm not sure.

And school's finally out! I have more time for things like pulling my hair out, also known as programming.
Macs in schools
School's Out!

Actually, I still have tomorrow left. Hopefully I don't do too miserably on my exams. I'm scared now because I've suddenly gotten low marks on all my French tests. Français est tres enneyeux.

Which brings me to my next rant. Recently we took a school survey, one of the questions being "Do you think the school's decision to use Macs over PCs is good?". Bad idea to ask students, as most I know at least are shielded from the truth of why Macs are superior. They always argue "They're too slow and my home computer is better!". Well, it's really the school that sucks for not upgrading them. Crappy Macs or crappy PCs, it won't make a difference at all. Unfortunately I can see PCs replacing Macs soon around the school, they've already started on the library. Sigh.
I got all of my friends to put YES for that question, but no doubt it won't make much of a difference. If only everyone knew the myths about the Mac.
WWDC Better Be Good
...Because the new G5s seriously suck. Water cooling is cool. Nothing more. That's all I have to say.

And yes old news but I haven't posted in a while.
Airport Express
APE Express Finally, something new from Apple. So I thought I'd post about it here.

It has the same features as Airport Extreme, but it can be plugged in anywhere. And it's really small. I was expecting something cooler looking from Apple than this, but the functionality is certainly amazing. AirTunes was also a good idea, allowing you to use your home speakers for playing your iTunes library.
Apple Rumors, School, More...
Apple rumors have been slow lately. No one seems to be getting any good insider information. At WWDC Apple is rumored to be releasing new PowerMacs, iMacs, and Mac OS 10.4 "Tiger". But they'll probably announce more cool stuff too. To get in the spirit I've changed the icon at the top of my blog to the Apple logo. :)

Also FSO2 open beta was released today, you can snag it at unfungames.com. There are some new tiles, but it's still the same thing. It also looks like OS9 support has been dropped in FSO2 too.

Once again I've been extremely busy with stuff (including programming) lately. No, you won't see anything new from Waterfall Software in a while. I'm sorry for that but I hope to get something out in the summer.

And I have no school tomorrow! Woohoo! Only 2 weeks left and it's all over - for the summer at least.
Music Downloading
iTunes Music StoreThere has been a lot of controversy recently over illegal music downloading, the RIAA and the iTunes Music Store. In the USA and countless other countries, this is illegal and some corporations are hunting single people down. Canada has ruled such acts perfectly legal, however. They argue that it's no different than listening to the radio. Some artists even think p2p sharing is good for them, it helps people find their music.

And thank god I agree. How is downloading music illegal? There's nothing more "morally" wrong about it than finding money on the street. If anything, it's uploading music that should be illegal.

But buying music is still easier. You get the correct tags, and cover work etc. Overall, in Canada at least, it is (and should be) a choice, not a crime.
