The Anti-Explorer Reason

Searching Technorati.com for your blog can lead to interesting results (and incase you do search for my blog, I am not sure what that one guy is talking about with the pictures. Why didn't he just email me if it bothered him so much? I also didn't post that comment. Anyways...). The reason why my blog redirects you to an anti-IE page is a simple one: It's my personal site. Okay, that reason is kind of ignorant too, but it's true. Here are some other reasons why I did this.

The most important reason is that my blog will not render on Internet Explorer. It uses some CSS stuff that IE simply cannot handle, and ends up looking like shit. That's not the impression I want to give people who come here, so instead I just tell them to get a better browser. I'm sure my blog isn't W3C compliant (although most of waterfallsw.com now is), but it does render fine in Firefox and Safari.

It's also a protest for proper web standards. If a browser has such ignorance for these web standards, then I'll gladly block it from my site if I need to. Sure, the "too cool badge" is a little much (I'll be removing that soon), but I do not like Internet Explorer. I think it's outrageous that the most popular browser in the world can't be bothered to support common CSS. But I'm hoping IE7 will prove me wrong.

I'm not expecting to convert people to Firefox. I'm not a huge Firefox fan, but on Windows it's a very nice alternative to Internet Explorer. More browsers are popping up every day. Opera is now free, and the most interesting new browser is Flock. Flock is a very slick browser with some nice integration with del.icio.us and Flickr. Anyways, everyone who I have switched to Firefox so far have been very pleased with the browser.

The internet is evolving, and there's no room for browsers like IE6. Until I decide to change my design to be IE-compatible (which I won't, just so you know), the block stays. Sorry for any inconvenience!
The irony, of course, being that you can't actually read the article about why you don't support IE unless you're not using IE.
